"Man can no longer live for himself alone. We must realize that all life is valuable and that we are united to all life. From this knowledge comes our spiritual relationship with the universe." Albert Schweitzer
This is a commemoration to Dr. Schweitzer's philosophy of respect for all life so he is surrounded by a circle of animals and children of all nations.
The grass inside the circle is lighter than the grass outside. It is Schweitzer's light, the inner light, that illuminates the grass. Schweitzer was in touch with nature which is symbolized by his being barefoot-there are no boundaries there.
